Preschool Science: How To Make Flubber

Flubber is so much fun.  I could play with it for hours!  It is also super easy to make and always impresses young children.

Flubber

Materials:

5 Table spoons Borax

3.5 cups of warm water

2 cups of Elmer’s Glue

2 large bowls (one can be slightly smaller)

Wooden spoon

Food coloring (optional)

Step 1:

In larger bowl mix 2 cups of glue and 2 cups of warm water.  Add food coloring if desired.

Step 2:

In other bowl mix 1.5 cups of warm water and Borax

This is the exciting part.  Pour the Borax mixture into the glue and water mixture.  The children will love the results!

The flubber will look watery, but that is ok.  Once it rests for a while it will maintain a nice smooth texture. You can store it in a Tupperware or ziplock bag.

If you dislike the mess play dough leaves behind then you will love flubber.  It is a much easier clean up.  Also, it is great for helping with fine motor skills.  Your little ones can practice using scissors by cutting the flubber.

This is a fast and easy way to entertain children.  As a preschool teacher I had a flubber station with tools to make flubber creations.  I found it helped with children who were stressed or angry.

My son could play with it for hours!

  1. This is awesome! I’m pinning it now! 🙂

  2. It worked! We didn’t have much glue, so I made a half batch. I think I’m loving it as much as the kiddo! Shared on Facebook for my parent friends too: https://www.facebook.com/CommittedLLC
