Teaching Young Children About Their Bodies

My son has been asking about his body and how it is different from girls.  He is only five years old so I have been on a hunt for a book that is geared more towards his needs.  I wanted something that was about the human body and not about sexuality.

Who Has What

Gus and Nellie are siblings on a trip to the beach.  Along the way they discuss how they are the same and different.  No matter what body they have, they are special and wonderful.

This book is amazing!   It is meant for younger children and teaches them about the basics of their bodies.  How are we the same?  How are we different?  It is an easy read and it allowed my son and I to talk about our bodies without involving sexuality.  It uses words like:  vagina, penis, uterus, and scrotum.  If you are not comfortable using those words around your children this might not be the book for you.

My son has asked both myself and his father to read this book to him.  He really enjoys reading it and it answered a lot of questions he had about the female body.  He only has a brother so he was really confused about what made the sexes different.  I am glad he felt comfortable enough to talk with me about it.

  1. Thanks for sharing! My daughter is almost 3 but has started asking about Mommy and Daddy’s different body parts so this sounds like a perfect book!
