Growing Up Too Fast!

Mom and Max

I cannot stand it!  Max is getting too old, too fast.  He is 5 going on 25!  Last night he asks me,

“Mom, What’s it like to be an adult?”

He had this dreamy look in his eye like I was going to answer,

“When you are an adult you get to eat ice cream every day, stay up all night long watching cartoons, and you never have to clean your room!”

Not quite the answer he was looking for, I explained to him that it is fun being an adult, but you still have responsibilities.  He rolls his eyes, his favorite thing to do!

“But, Mom, what is your favorite thing about being grown up?  Really?”

I held him close to my heart and told him the truth, “My most favorite thing about being a grown up is that I got to have you.”

Surprisingly enough, he didn’t roll his eyes.  He gave me a big hug!

  1. That’s beautiful. I have a child who is one week shy of being five. I keep falling in love with her more each day – it’s a very precious age.
